No Car at the Minute so…
The parents had to borrow my car so I bused my way up to Derry this week. Costly. People keep telling me that I should get the bus as opposed to driving because it’s cheaper etc. However, this is not the case! It costs me £18.50 in travel to get up to my house from my parent’s house. Thats one way. I usually put £15.00 of fuel in the car per week so I’m actually out an extra £25.00 this week. Bleugh.
Anyway; due to the fact that my car is absent this week – I’ve taken to walking this past few days. Catherine and I had a nice day out & did a little exploring. We did a little shopping, I went to get my hair cut, although they were busy… But the very effeminate fellow who I had spoken with aptly made an appointment for me. I feel a little violated. I didn’t want to say no, just incase I offended him. I don’t know how my declining an appointment would have offended him; but I’m sure that had I said No, that I would’ve gotten one of those anti-homosexual glances… You know the kind of one that a gay male gives you when you avoid eye-contact or remain quiet at checkouts etc. It just so happens I avoid eye-contact with everyone and I generally don’t indulge the habit of speaking to strangers at shop checkouts… I am not anti-gay; I have a number of gay friends and have no problem with the gay community.
Moving on – We invaded the Derry Craft Village today and had a quick snack in the Boston Tea Party which is really yummy. Lots of home-made grub & a nice quirky dining area. Catherine was a bit apprehensive, as I’m sure many would be seeing as the place is like something from 40 years ago, with a very random selection of lasagnes, pies and buns. Definately worth a go if you’re into a quirky venue for tea/coffee and a snack.
The craft village is like something out of this world. Ideal location for a photoshoot or a film or something. I intend to utilise that space at some point in my career. I had wanted to set my site specific play there last year, however due to the universities restrictions re: insurance etc I had to settle for a dingy, wet area below Studio B at Foyle Arts. Check out the quirkiest front door I’ve ever seen to the left… :)
On the topic of writing again: in response to my previous post, someone asked had I plagiarised my play. Ha. No, I haven’t. I merely pointed out that if my lecturer in playwriting had entered my play title into google, that this blog would surely appear and that due to the fact that the blog is entitled ‘Journals of a Non-Poet ‘ and not Philip Larkin’s blog – There may have been some confusion on the matter. Anywho. All is ticking along and I’m still unsure as to what my project question is going to be… Thanks for your help general public. I’ll know not to ask any favours again.
I go in for a back operation on Sunday. Fasting from 12 midnight on Saturday. What about my 3am snack??? Not looking forward to that.
Best,
x
