Well, it’s my favourite time of year again. Yes, I do prefer Halloween to many other so called ‘holidays’ or celebrations; merely because it’s the most joyous and fun and there are mostly no strings attached. It’s not a traditionally ‘commercial’ holiday; but rather one where the celebrator isn’t bombarded with the onslaught of having to buy greetings cards, gifts and stock up on fine fare and millions of fancy biscuits (those which magically appear at Christmas, but your mother would never normally buy – the cheating, insincere ‘these are the biscuits we ALWAYS use, ‘biscuits’.)
No, Halloween is genuinely fun. Not the pretend or faked fun of Christmas, but all out good old hearty craic.
Although I suppose to an extent, it is what you make of it. Which can be applied to any situation; however, I believe it’s a lot easier to make Halloween fun.
Yesterday, my brother arrived in Glasgow for the weekend. He’s vetting the place as he’s considering doing his degree course over here. Understandably he picked Halloween weekend for a number of particular reasons. One being that he’s off school at the moment. The more important reason being that, like his older sibling, he’s fascinated by film. So, we’ve initiated a horrorfest. It all started last night with An American Werewolf in London, which happened to be showing at the Glasgow Cineworld. Greatly ridiculous movie, but very much fun and an exceptional start to proceedings.
This afternoon we’re participating in a Zombie Walk in the city. Hundreds of like-minded individuals are meeting in the city’s Westend, dressed as the undead in order to parade around the city and scare/amuse folk. Doing our bit, you see. Brightening up some peoples days, and scaring the bejesus out of the younger more gullable children folk… It’s all an education.
So! Lined up for this evening – our horrorfest is to continue with Rosemary’s Baby, The Fly I & II, The Shining, The Last House on the Left, and whatever else we happen to come across…
Awesome in a jar? You bet it is.
Hope everyone has a delightful day of ghoulish gatherings and trick-or-treatery.
TTFN,
x
PS. Boo!
